Objectified measurements using the EMVA 1288 measuring station enable reliable assessment of development steps and create security when aligning with client requirements. The AEON measurement station consists of an ACC2 light source and Heurisko imaging software.
Depending on their applications our clients make quite different demands on our measurement concepts. Where required we work with standards like EMVA 1288 but we also provide all possibilities for clients with own measurement specifications or industry specific requirements which can be more selective or stricter. If required we also develop own measuring machines.

Standardized Measurement Conditions
The camera is directly connected to a homogenous light source with a defined output, enabling measurements to be carried out under defined and standardized calibrated lighting conditions in absolute units. Based upon the precise measurement of the parameters, different cameras can be compared directly. Using the EMVA measuring station, sensitivity, linearity, noise, dark current, and camera gain are defined according to the standard's specifications.
Specific Client Requirements
Increasingly, client requirements include EMVA 1288-compliant measurements. But for clients who don't work with the EMVA standard, a wide diversity of tests, such as those assessing the suitability of sensors for night vision applications, can be carried out with targeted specificity. Camera features which are not covered by the standard or which are specifically defined by the client are implemented using Kappa's HORST measuring station.

HORST offers flexible measurements and analyses of parameters not covered by the EMVA standard. Measurement specifications can be defined specifically, thus meeting the needs of clients whose parameter definitions differ from the standard. With integrated camera control, connection to the device’s data bank and many extras like bar code scanning, HORST is the central instrument for integrating processes at all levels of the company.

Using an image-based measurement machine developed in-house, we have standardized and simplified our processes, further improved measurement performance, and improved and shortened the time required with automation of alignment processes. The measurement microscope offers exactitude of 1 μm absolutely along all axes for sensor adjustment down to the pixel. A measurement protocol documents the results for every camera.

High demands are placed on the micrometer-exact positioning of the sensor in the camera housing. The CCD sensor’s optical axis must be aligned with an exactitude of up to +/- 1 μm per spatial direction on the optical axis of the camera housing. Moreover, the sensor mechanics’ maneuverability must achieve a defined value on each of the 3 axes.

Measurement environment at the highest level
Kappa uses ultra-precise collimators for both modulation transfer function (MTF) measurements and sensor and optics alignment. This enables a unique characterization of optical systems. We use the method in both development and production. Designers are able to make precise deductions about system performance. In production, the method ensures the highest precision in system assembly.
